Our Story

Amai Gallery is a Maine-based, artist-run space devoted to amplifying the voices of emerging and mid-career women and gender non-conforming artists. Rooted in a spirit of inclusivity and innovation, Amai curates multidisciplinary work with a particular emphasis on sculpture, craft, and tactile-based practices—mediums that speak through texture, form, and material memory.

Our curatorial vision is collaborative and expansive. We actively engage with art foundations, fellow galleries, and unconventional collectives to create immersive experiences that celebrate underrepresented voices. As we grow, we envision larger-scale exhibitions, art fairs, and dynamic partnerships that continue to push the boundaries of contemporary art.

Currently, Amai Gallery proudly represents Kelly Moeykens, Abby Elizabeth, and Jaclyn Mottola—three artists whose sculptural thinking and material experimentation create a resonant dialogue across their bodies of work. Their mixed media pieces, crafted from recycled objects, sand, wooden dowels, and even toy soldiers, explore themes of social inequality and ecological urgency. Together, their visual language forms a collective pulse—one that transcends the individual and speaks to shared human and environmental concerns.

We are thrilled to welcome our newest artist, Christy Powers, whose work brings a poetic lens to contemporary youth culture. Born in New York, Christy holds a BA from Sarah Lawrence College and an MA with distinction from the University of New South Wales. Her ethereal ink, gouache, and watercolor compositions—often depicting girls and social media—carry a dreamlike blur, evoking the fragility of memory and the fleeting nature of digital identity. Christy’s work has been exhibited widely, from the Bronx Museum to the Queen Victoria Museum, and she has participated in residencies across the globe, including ILIRI in the Australian Outback and the AIM program at the Bronx Museum.

Welcome, Christy. We are honored to have your voice join the Amai team.
