Kelly Moeykens

Kelly Moeykens is a Maine-based artist whose practice is rooted in process and transformation. Known for her evocative wall sculptures, paintings, and works on found paper, Moeykens explores the alchemy of materials—manipulating them repeatedly to uncover their latent potential. Her work is distinguished by its tactile richness and the poetic tension between abstraction and form.

In her paper-based installations, Moeykens hand-cuts and layers thousands of recycled paper flowers, creating immersive environments that echo the fragility and beauty of our planet’s threatened biodiversity. These intricate compositions invite viewers into a contemplative space where material becomes metaphor, and the ephemeral is made monumental.

Moeykens’ work is a quiet yet powerful act of environmental advocacy, drawing attention to the ecological crises we face through the language of texture, repetition, and transformation. She currently lives and works in Midcoast Maine.

Artists Statement

My work is born from process—an intuitive dialogue with material that unfolds over time. I am drawn to the tactile nature of making, to the physicality of folding, layering, and shaping. Each piece is a meditation on transformation, a search for what a material might become when pushed beyond its original intent.

Through my practice, I aim to create a sensory experience—one that invites touch, memory, and emotion. I see art as a vessel for environmental consciousness, a way to speak to the urgency of our biodiversity crisis. I hope my work resonates with viewers on a personal level, sparking reflection and connection, and perhaps even a sense of stewardship for the world we share.
