Cat Huss

Cat Huss (b. 1970) is an American contemporary painter and mixed media artist. Cat's quest for self-discovery and understanding of the world around her is what fuels her creativity. She seeks to understand herself and the world better by expressing her impressions of it in layers of rich color and simple, almost minimal form…. giving a sense of the layered life filled with wonder, mystery, curiosity, and a quest for truth in self and others.

“I think art should be a transformative experience.... for the artist and the viewer. I immerse my whole self into the process so that what is ultimately expressed is an honest communication of the concepts I’m exploring at the time through the process, materials, and the final visual result.

The development of the work is meditative. I zoom in on the details of myself and the world around me, then zoom out to look at the bigger picture, working to make sense of it all. The look of the work is influenced by both this meditative process of discovery and self-challenge as well as my time in nature because the best thinking happens outside on trips, people-watching, or just sitting, listening, and inserting my body into the world to contemplate. The work is a self-portrait, a view of my internal struggles and triumphs which then becomes a shared human experience. After all, what do we have in common if not our own humanity? I consider my work to be  a visual statement about looking deeper, beyond the surface in order to truly understand.”

Cat is an independent artist. Her work has been featured in galleries, virtual exhibitions, and curated independent fairs throughout the United States. Her work is currently held in private collections in the United States, Europe, and Australia.
